There’s something truly magical about a wedding day that feels effortless, intentional, and beautifully reflective of the couple’s personality — and Katie + Greg’s National Art Gallery Wedding did just that.

Katie and Greg travelled from Boston to Ottawa for their destination wedding and wisely leaned on the expertise of Ottawa planner Erica Irwin. Erica’s extensive knowledge of the Ottawa wedding scene made planning a breeze — from vendor selection to navigating logistics at one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Katie and Greg exchanged vows in the water foyer of the National Gallery of Canada, a space known for its dramatic architecture and naturally darker, more intimate atmosphere. Rather than fighting the mood of the room, we leaned into it — enhancing the space with thoughtfully placed lighting to add warmth, depth, and dimension.

The result was a ceremony that felt cinematic and intentional. The soft light carved out moments, drew focus to the couple, and transformed the gallery’s strong lines into something romantic and refined. It was the perfect balance of modern art gallery drama and emotional, honest storytelling — exactly the kind of setting that allows a ceremony to feel both personal and visually striking.

The reception took place in the Grand Hall, one of the most striking spaces in the National Gallery of Canada. With its soaring ceilings, expansive windows, and sculptural architecture, the room feels both monumental and serene — a setting that needs very little to make an impact.

Long tables were arranged to complement the scale of the space, while soft lighting and florals added warmth without competing with the gallery’s clean lines. As daylight faded and evening settled in, the room shifted in tone, becoming intimate despite its size. It was a beautiful contrast — a grand, architectural backdrop paired with a celebratory dinner shared among close family and friends.
