Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa

The list of the Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa according to an Ottawa Wedding Photographer.

You have likely come across this page after searching for the Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa. Assuming you’re a newly engaged couple, big congrats and I’m glad you’re here! As a full time wedding photographer, I see a lot of different wedding venues each weekend. I’ve moved to Ottawa about four years ago now, and have been lucky to have already explored and captured beautiful weddings in all the major venues.

After seeing so many of these venues, and shooting multiple weddings in each, I thought I would share my list of some of what I consider the best wedding venues in Ottawa, in case you are new to the wedding venue search and could use the help in narrowing down some of the most beautiful venues in the area.

One thing that photographers like to see in a wedding venue is lots of natural light: big windows and well lit receptions make a huge difference in terms of getting back beautiful images of your day. So I have taken this into consideration for all the venues on the list. Even with the venues I have chosen, there are things you can do to ensure for beautiful, well-lit images. For instance, facing your ceremony location in a certain direction to ensure the light is flattering for the time of day (and no one has to squint!). Or adding different types of lighting to a reception space (candles go a long way in creating a beautiful, warm reception!) are all great things to think about.

In my list are Included in the list are some of the major ones that you can easily find on google, but also some smaller venues you may not come across in a quick search. I also tried to include venues for all types of budgets. So in no particular order, here it goes!:

National Art Gallery Wedding

380 Sussex Dr, Ottawa, ON K1N 9N4 |

The National Art Gallery is such a stunning space and an iconic Ottawa Landmark. Huge ceilings, with natural light flooding in from everywhere, it makes the perfect summer wedding venue downtown Ottawa. The space is one of the few downtown that can accommodate more then 150 (up to 300 here!), and with ample room, it allows for a lot of options in terms of configuring your ceremony and/or reception there.

Aquatopia Weddings

2710 March Road |

I’ve had the pleasure of capturing dozens of weddings now at Aquatopia. This beautiful greenhouse in Carp is one of those venues that doesn’t need much help in terms of decor to look incredible. Filled with tropical plants and surrounded by glass, it looks amazing in every season. The staff are incredible helpful and professional, and because of this, every wedding I’ve photographed here goes off without a hitch.

The Horticulture Building

The Horticultural Building is a large, beautiful venue right in the middle of Ottawa (a rare find!). The words on the website sold me immediately: “high ceilings, exposed beams and fantastic natural light thanks to the 16 foot windows that line the east wall”. It’s one of the only industrial looking venues in the city. Also, this blank space is rentable by the hour, so it’s completely customizable. It can hold a lot of guests, so if you’re planning a large wedding, but want to skip on having a hotel or conference centre wedding, then this is a great choice.

Stonefields Weddings

Located a little outside of Ottawa in Carleton Place, Stonefields is definitely worth the drive. A beautiful, modern barn wedding venue. The owners of Stonefield’s definitely know how to run a venue and are often updating the space with more beautiful buildings, including a beautiful chapel as a great rain option for your ceremony. (I mean, The modern white chapel is beautiful enough, some couples choose it as their main option!). This one is definitely worth checking out.

An obvious choice for a couple looking for an elegant space in downtown Ottawa. The ‘French style château’ is always a classic choice and definitely doesn’t lack in beautiful architectural details. There are also tons of photo opportunities around the building for wedding party and couples portraits. There are three reception spaces to choose from, and ceremony options on the beautiful balcony. But if you’re looking to get married here – especially on a Saturday in the summer, don’t delay in booking – this venue books up fast!

Restaurant 18 Wedding

I don’t have many other restaurants on this list, but Restaurant 18 is a beautiful choice if you’re looking for a smaller, sophisticated venue downtown. Located in a historic, stone-walled building in the Byward market, it’s a great choice and especially popular for a cozy winter wedding venue. This one has beautiful big windows in the ceremony space, and if you’re a foodie, a venue that is guaranteed to provide you with amazing food & wine all night.  With the location right on York street, there are plenty of photography locations nearby.

Le Belvédère

40 Des Sentiers, Wakefield, QC |

Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa

An obvious choice for an stunning outdoor wedding. Le Belvédère is another one of those venues in the Ottawa area that is so well run. The ceremony overlooks the beautiful rolling hills and the bright reception space is as customizable as you like. Because it’s so beautiful, this is another venue that books up very quickly, so if you want a Saturday wedding, you may have to plan a little further in advance. They also book weddings right through the week, so if you love the venue and want to get married sooner rather than later, you can ask them what’s available and book an alternative to the popular summer dates.

If you’re looking for a venue with a view, you’ll definitely want to check out Venue TwentyTwo located on the 22nd floor of the Westin. The sun sets right into the room, so your reception will have a stunning, warm light all evening long. This venue is especially popular in August when there is chance you’ll see some fireworks in the backdrop of your first dance. Definitely another bright, modern, downtown venue to consider!

Lago Bar & Grill wedding

Lago Wedding Ottawa
Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa

Lago is a little different to the other venues on this list. Another restaurant venue, but located right on Dows Lake. This venue also has great food and wine, and a few options for ceremonies and receptions. They have an upstairs space and the downstairs restaurant, and if you don’t have too many guests, you can have your ceremony on the balcony overlooking Dows lake. Being located beside the Arboretum, there are plenty of photo opportunities. If you’re planning for late May in particular, you may even luck out with those beautiful pink and white blooms that are covering the area.

Adelina Barn Wedding

316 Chem. du 6e Rang, Gatineau, QC J8R 3A3 |

This list would’t be complete without the beautiful Adelina Barn. This intimate barn setting is certainly more romantic than rustic. With a renovated, open interior inside the barn and beautiful mature gardens surrounding it, the space is beautiful at every corner. Located in Gatineau, but not far from central Ottawa if you need to get ready off-site (though they do have a suite that the bride or groom could use that morning!). This is definitely one of the top on my list when recommending intimate spaces for wedding.

25 Rue Jos-Montferrand, Gatineau, QC J8X 0E2

If you were looking for a more industrial wedding venue in Ottawa, Zibi is one of your only options. Thankfully it’s a stunning one. With the brick walls, wood detail and glass ceilings, I love capturing the changing light in here throughout the wedding day. It’s a great blank-space for you to design any kind of celebration and includes plenty of space and a ton of options.

So if you’re looking for the Best Wedding Venues in Ottawa, or just started your search and need to add some options to your list, I hope this helped!
